August 2013 – Class 15 Orientation

The Massachusetts Promise Fellows had a busy month as the year of service started in August. Interested in what we’ve been up to?

Class 15 Orientation

Location: Northeastern University

Dates: August 6, 7 & 8

This August the Massachusetts Promise Fellowship convened forty fellows for three days of training and bonding at Northeastern University. Orientation is a foundational component of the experience as Fellows complete paperwork to officially enroll as AmeriCorps members for the year. In addition, Fellows have the opportunity to build connections with each other through team-building exercises and informational workshops.

In advising groups fellows provided introductions by way of the ‘River Stories’ activity. In this activity fellows shared their personal and professional experience along with highlights and challenges. MPF Branding 101 presented fellows with best practices for wearing their AmeriCorps gear. Fellow alum Nancy Luc delivered her 7th annual Money Management workshop and a panel of alumni shared helpful tips on getting by on the AmeriCorps stipend. The Leadership 101 workshop guided Fellows in exploring their personal leadership style.

These three busy days were a great way to kick off the year of service. Fellows walked away from orientation with new skills, tools and personal connections that will enhance their experience at their host-sites!
