We are excited to be back together at Northeastern for our first meeting of 2014!
Thursday’s training was kicked off with a skill share from Ingrid. Her host site is Girls Inc. of Lynn. She led the Fellows in a drawing activity that produced self portraits!
What’s Race Got To Do With It is a workshop provided by Pete and Melissa Shungu from Shine’s. The training is an exploration into the social construct of race and how it impacts our lives and work.
During this Shines workshop the Fellows explored systemic issues of privilege and oppression as they relate to various aspects of their identities, with a particular focus on race.
The group engaged in small and whole group discussions, viewed and processed a documentary which places race in a historical context, and participated in activities that allowed them to examine their own identities and varying levels of privilege and oppression that they experience in their lives and in their work.
