Here’s to another great year of service with The Massachusetts Promise Fellowship! On August 4th, 5th & 6th, Fellows in Class XVII attended a three-day Orientation hosted by Northeastern University. Over the course of these days, Fellows got a chance to build community through fun activities and workshops that will prove to be useful throughout the year!
Tuesday, August 4th–
Fellows started the day off with an ice-breaker that allowed everyone to learn exciting facts about each other. It was interesting to find out that a handful of Fellows are alumni’s of other AmeriCorps programs and that there is a wealth of knowledge in various areas among the new class. The group performed skits to highlight MPF’s six partnerships (Mass Service Alliance, AmeriCorps, Corporation for National & Community Service, America’s Promise Alliance, Northeastern University, and 40 Host Sites across MA), reviewed the MPF Contract and Responsibilities, split up into Advising Groups to share River Stories and played Trivia at PourHouse.
Wednesday, August 5th-
Wednesday was filled with a packed agenda! Fellows learned about America’s 5 Promises, the importance of MPF evaluations, the benefits of being a Fellow, gained insight from an Alumni Panel (shoutout to Nancy, Emma, Katie and Will!!), and discussed how to navigate challenging situations. WE ALSO CAN’T FORGET ABOUT THE ALUMNI BEACH PARTY!! What a great time! Both Alumni and current Fellows had a chance to network and show off their hip dance moves at our annual beach themed party. Thanks to all of our Alumni that attended!
Thursday, August 6th-
On the last day of Orientation, Fellows were introduced to Northeastern University’s College of Professional Studies where they are able to take free courses and have course discounts upon program completion. Trainings like Developing Your Professional Persona and You Are the MPF Brand inspired Fellows to wear their MPF gear with pride throughout the year. Orientation closed with Class XVII Fellows getting sworn-in to AmeriCorps and final reflections during our Pass the Wagon Ceremony.
Love in Service,
The Massachusetts Promise Fellowship
