Jamelia Willock is Giving the Gift of a Healthy Start.
“Serving at the Boston Public Health Commission, I work closely with their teen dating violence prevention group, Start Strong. My service provides each student with a Healthy Start because in addition to our healthy relationship curriculum administered by the teen peer leaders, the teens of my program also learn additional social and emotional skills. Throughout my service year I coordinate and facilitate workshops with the youth about social justice topics as well as social and emotional competencies for them to take with them throughout their lives.”
–Jamelia Willock, MPF Fellow 2015-2016
One of Jamelia’s youth, Nicole Carrasco remarked, “The programming at Start Strong has taught me how to communicate better, how to help people and be accepting of everyone”
Jamelia is serving her youth as a first year Massachusetts Promise Fellow at the Boston Public Health Commission. Through her continued commitment to providing resources, trainings and support to youth to help them prevent teen dating violence, Jamelia is Giving the Gift of a Healthy Start.
