What inspires you to serve?
In the big picture, I am inspired to serve because of the fundamental inequities that I have observed in the delivery of education to young people. On a day-to-day basis, the incredible determination and enthusiasm the students bring to DFCI inspires me to show up for them completely. The enthusiasm of the science initiative group inspires me to keep continually develop workshops that are exciting and confidence-building. With their new microscopy skills definitely coming into…focus…I’m inspired to create new challenges for them, including but not limited to the serving of relentless science puns.
Why would you encourage others to join the Massachusetts Promise Fellowship?
The overall generative value of the experience and for all the personal and professional investments supported by MPF.
Describe the greatest adventure of your life.
Traveling to La Gonave, Haiti, after taking 100 straight hours of Haitian Creole at Dartmouth’s Rassias College. I had dreamed of going for several years after discovering Paul Farmer, and it was amazing to actually have the chance to work in a clinic and come to briefly know the Haitian Health Workers who will eventually run the clinic sustainably without American support. I love the bonds that international travel can create and I will treasure the experience for the rest of my life.
